Accessibility
This site exists to be heard by everyone — including blind and partially sighted visitors, keyboard and switch users, Deaf visitors, and anyone for whom standard sites are hard work. If any part of it fails you, that is a defect andwe want to know.
Your settings
Adjust the site to suit you. These apply immediately, on every page, and are remembered on this device only (nothing is sent to us).
What we do
- We target WCAG 2.1 AA, and every release is gated by automated accessibility checks (axe) across the site's pages — serious or critical violations fail the build.
- Semantic HTML, landmarks, a skip-to-content link, and visible focus styles; the whole site works by keyboard.
- Colour contrast checked against AA; colour is never the only carrier of meaning, and body text is never coloured. The site is dark-on-light by default; a dark theme (or one that follows your device) is a setting above, and higher contrast works with both.
- Forms with real labels, clear errors announced to screen readers, and no time limits.
- Motion respects your system's reduced-motion preference (and the toggle above); the home-page visualisation has a static equivalent.
- Content pages ship with almost no JavaScript, so they stay fast and robust with assistive technology.
- Core pages are available in Welsh, with Gaelic andIrish introductions.
British Sign Language
BSL versions of the most important pages — Get Help first — are planned as recorded human translations, not computer-generated avatars, because Deaf-led organisations have been clear that avatars are not good enough for content that matters. The pages are already built to receive the videos as soon as they are produced. If you are a BSL user (or a translator) and want to help shape this, please get in touch.
Known limitations
- Much of the content is in draft while it is reviewed; wording and structure may change.
- The treatises are long documents — a summarised version of each exists on the shorter Learn pages.
- Welsh, Gaelic and Irish translations await fluent-speaker review; some pages are English-only for now.
- Print-ready and PDF materials are still being produced; when they arrive they will be tagged for accessibility.
Tell us when it fails
If you hit a barrier — a page a screen reader mangles, a control you cannot reach by keyboard, text you cannot resize —report it and we will treat it as a bug, not feedback.
